California needs supply from the nearest location
California has the largest motor gasoline consumption in the US. According to statistics from Energy Administration Information, about 8 million gallons sales per day was made in California in Dec 2007.

However, most ethanol production facilities locate in central US region. 4 out of 139 plants locate in California.

The current ethanol production capacity in California is less than 1% of total national ethanol production capacity. In the near future, California ethanol capacity will be increased to only 1.7% of total national ethanol production capacity. Therefore, more ethanol plants need to be built in California in order to locally supply the largest gasoline consumption state.
