Production not met the demand yet
According to the data from Renewable Fuels Association, the domestic Ethanol production hasn’t meet the demand yet. In 2007, the demand of fuel ethanol was 6.85 billion gallons while the ethanol production was about 6.5 billion gallons.

There is plenty of room for Fuel Ethanol to grow
The United States consumed roughly 142 billion gallons of gasoline in 2006 or 388.6 million gallons per day, according to Energy Information Administration (the statistical agency of the US Department of Energy) statistics. Ethanol represented just about 5% of gasoline consumed. Based on the mandate supply quantity in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, the future biofuel supply will aim to round up to 40% of total gasoline supply in 2022.
